Virtual Wind Tunnel Firm AiRO Marks Rapid Global Growth

Aerodynamic testing specialist AiRO has revealed a striking first year of growth, with its computational simulation platform now used across 25 countries and territories worldwide.

The company, which offers riders and teams a digital alternative to traditional wind tunnel sessions, says it is now processing more than 1,000 individual aero simulations every month. The system uses computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to model how a rider’s position, kit and equipment interact with airflow, producing data-driven feedback without the need to book physical tunnel time.

AiRO’s founders say the rapid uptake reflects growing demand from both amateur racers and professional squads for affordable, accessible aero insight. Traditional wind tunnel testing remains costly and often out of reach for all but the best-funded teams, whereas simulation-based tools can be run remotely and repeated frequently as a rider’s position or equipment changes throughout a season.

For readers who follow time trialling, triathlon or road racing closely, this expansion is a reminder of how quickly aerodynamic technology is filtering down from the WorldTour to club level. Marginal gains that were once the preserve of national federations and manufacturer-backed teams are increasingly available to everyday riders willing to invest in data-led position tweaks rather than expensive travel to a physical facility.

AiRO has not disclosed which teams or athletes make up its client base, but the firm’s growth suggests confidence in simulation accuracy is rising within the sport. As more riders chase incremental speed advantages ahead of next season’s road and TT calendars, tools promising wind-tunnel-calibre data at a fraction of the cost look set to become a more familiar part of race preparation.
