Stan’s NoTubes has introduced a new tubeless sealant aimed squarely at road and gravel riders who run higher tyre pressures than their mountain bike counterparts. Named Rolled Gold, the biodegradable formula is being billed by the American brand as its lightest and quickest-curing sealant so far.
According to Stan’s, just 35ml is needed to treat a standard 700c x 28mm tyre, which the company claims is over a third less than the industry average for comparable products. Despite the reduced volume, the brand insists the sealant still copes with punctures of a decent size, making the case that riders can carry less liquid without sacrificing protection against flats.
The launch reflects a broader shift in tubeless technology, as more sealant makers tailor formulas specifically to the higher pressures and finer tyre casings used in road and gravel racing, rather than relying on products originally designed for mountain bike use.
For riders at club level and beyond, sealant choice has become as significant a performance consideration as tyre selection itself, with weight, drying time and puncture-sealing ability all feeding into race-day decisions. A lighter, faster-curing option could prove particularly appealing to gravel racers and time triallists chasing marginal gains, where every gram and every second spent fixing a puncture at the roadside genuinely counts.
