Giro’s New Montaro Pro Helmet Brings Extra Protection for Trail and E-MTB Riders
Giro has expanded its mountain bike helmet line-up with the launch of the Montaro Pro, a lid built specifically with trail, enduro and e-MTB riders in mind. The helmet will retail at u00a3269.99 in the UK and u20ac299.99 across Europe.
At the heart of the new design sits Giro’s Spherical construction, which pairs a dual-density foam layer with Mips slip-plane technology to help manage rotational forces in a crash. Giro has extended the shell further down around the head for added coverage, while reworking the vent layout to keep air moving during hard efforts on the climbs. A newly developed AURA fit system is also included, allowing riders to fine-tune the retention cradle for a more secure, personalised fit.
Crucially, the Montaro Pro carries NTA-8776 certification, the European safety standard specifically developed for helmets used on faster, heavier e-bikes. This makes it one of a growing number of premium lids now built to satisfy the higher-speed impact requirements that e-MTBs can generate, rather than simply borrowing standard trail helmet designs.
For UK riders increasingly venturing onto e-MTBs for longer days in the saddle, certified protection matters more than ever, as motor-assisted bikes routinely reach higher speeds on descents and technical terrain than their unassisted counterparts. With e-MTB sales continuing to grow across British trail centres and bike parks, helmets like the Montaro Pro reflect a wider shift in the industry towards purpose-built safety standards rather than one-size-fits-all protection, and it’s a trend On Track expects more brands to follow through 2025.
