Magura’s New Race Pro Brake Targets Trail and Enduro Riders

German brake specialist Magura has expanded its line-up with the Race Pro, a disc brake pitched squarely at riders who push hard on technical trails, enduro stages and downhill runs.

The new stopper is machined from forged aluminium, a process Magura says allows it to keep the calliper stiff under load while trimming excess weight from the overall system. That combination of rigidity and low mass is aimed at giving riders confidence when braking hard into rough or steep terrain, without adding unnecessary bulk to the bike.

Magura has also worked on the brake’s friction properties, with the aim of delivering strong outright stopping power alongside fine modulation – allowing riders to feather the brakes precisely rather than simply grabbing a fistful of lever. This balance is particularly prized in enduro and downhill riding, where control on variable surfaces can matter as much as raw power.

Full technical specifications and pricing have yet to be published in detail, but the Race Pro’s positioning suggests Magura is targeting the gap between its trail-focused models and dedicated downhill hardware, offering a single brake capable of handling both demanding trail rides and full-blown gravity racing.

For UK mountain bikers, brake performance remains one of the most talked-about components on any build, particularly as enduro racing continues to push bikes and their stopping power to the limit on increasingly punishing tracks. A brake that promises downhill-level bite in a package light enough for all-day trail use could appeal to riders who currently compromise between two different setups, and it will be worth watching how the Race Pro performs against established rivals once independent testing gets underway.
