ADO Unveils Radar-and-LiDAR Safety System for E-Bikes

Chinese e-bike manufacturer ADO has introduced its latest rider-assistance package, Sense 3.0, which pairs LiDAR scanning with short-range radar to give cyclists a clearer picture of traffic and obstacles around them. The system is designed to sit unobtrusively on the bike’s frame or seatpost, continuously monitoring the space behind and around the rider.

According to the brand, the combined sensor set-up can detect approaching vehicles, cyclists or pedestrians at distance, feeding real-time alerts through an onboard display or companion app. ADO says the aim is to reduce blind-spot incidents, particularly for riders navigating busy junctions or fast-moving traffic where a rearward glance isn’t always practical.

Sense 3.0 builds on ADO’s earlier radar-only safety features, adding LiDAR’s finer spatial detection to improve accuracy in distinguishing between static obstacles and moving hazards. The company has not yet confirmed a UK release date or pricing, though its e-bikes are already sold through several British retailers.

For On Track readers, this sort of hardware matters beyond novelty value. With e-bike commuting numbers climbing sharply across UK cities, and cycling infrastructure still patchy in many areas, tech that offers an extra layer of awareness could genuinely help riders feel safer sharing the road with motor traffic. Whether radar-and-LiDAR systems become a standard fitment or remain a premium add-on will likely depend on cost and how seamlessly manufacturers can integrate them without adding bulk or battery drain – factors we’ll be watching closely as more brands enter this space.
