Hase Bikes Unveils Side-by-Side Electric Tandem Trike

German recumbent specialist Hase Bikes has pulled the wraps off the Kettwiesel TWO, a full-suspension electric trike that lets two riders sit alongside one another rather than in the traditional front-and-back tandem arrangement.

The idea behind the layout is simple: it keeps both riders facing forward and able to chat, take in the scenery and share the effort of pedalling, even when one has significantly less strength or mobility than the other. Hase says the machine has been developed with couples, families and carers in mind, as well as care organisations and community groups looking for ways to keep people with limited mobility active outdoors.

Full suspension should smooth out the ride on rougher surfaces, while the electric assist takes the sting out of hills and long distances, making the trike a practical option for mixed-ability outings rather than just a novelty. Hase has built its reputation on recumbent trikes aimed at accessibility and inclusion, and the Kettwiesel TWO looks to extend that ethos into a genuinely shared riding experience rather than one rider simply being carried along.

For our readers, this sort of machine matters well beyond the club run. Inclusive cycling equipment like this is quietly reshaping who gets to call themselves a cyclist, giving people recovering from injury, living with disability, or simply riding with someone less able, a proper way to keep pedalling together. As British cycling continues to push participation schemes and adaptive cycling initiatives, expect side-by-side trikes of this sort to become a more familiar sight on cycle paths and at community events around the UK.
