Castelli beefs up Espresso line for autumn’s in-between days

Italian kit specialist Castelli has widened its popular Espresso collection, adding fresh options aimed squarely at the awkward temperature bracket between summer and full winter riding.

Two new bib garments headline the update: the Espresso Thermal Bibshort, built for crisp mornings that warm up by lunchtime, and the Espresso TRNSTN Bibtight, a lightweight tight designed to bridge the gap before heavier winter leggings become necessary. Alongside these, Castelli has refreshed several layering staples from the range, including the Espresso 2 long-sleeve jersey, the Espresso Thermal 2 jersey and the Espresso 2 gilet, each tweaked for improved fit and thermal regulation.

The brand says the changes reflect years of feedback from riders who found the shift between seasons the hardest part of kitting out for training, when a single degree of temperature swing can mean the difference between overheating and shivering.

For UK riders, this kind of update matters more than marketing spin might suggest. Britain’s fitful autumn and spring weather rarely allows for simple summer-or-winter kit decisions, and having reliable transitional layers can be the difference between a productive club run and an aborted session. Getting layering right also protects against the boom-and-bust temperature swings that derail early-season form, particularly for those building toward spring road races or sportives. With more riders now training year-round rather than hanging up the bike over winter, brands investing in this middle ground of the wardrobe are responding to a real gap that many riders have quietly struggled with for years.

The expanded Espresso range is rolling out through Castelli’s usual retail and online channels now, ahead of the autumn riding season.
