Bike Trade Hiring Push Continues as Vacancies Board Passes 570 Placements

The cycling industry’s jobs board, run by trade title BikeBiz, has confirmed it has helped fill more than 570 roles across the UK bike trade so far in 2025, with new vacancies continuing to be posted on a weekly basis.

Among the latest batch of adverts is a call for a bicycle mechanic to join Leisure Lakes Bikes at its concession within GO Outdoors in Deepdale, Preston. The retailer is looking for a proactive, hands-on technician to support servicing and sales at the site, reflecting a steady demand for skilled workshop staff across independent and multiple retailers alike.

The figures suggest that, despite ongoing pressures on bricks-and-mortar bike shops from online retail and squeezed household spending, employers are still actively recruiting mechanics, sales staff and management across the country. Roles being advertised span everything from shopfloor positions to more specialist technical and buying jobs, indicating a trade that remains in need of skilled labour even as it adapts to a changing retail landscape.

For riders, this matters more than it might first appear. A well-staffed network of local bike shops underpins everything from pre-season bike checks to emergency repairs before a sportive or race weekend, and a shortage of qualified mechanics can mean longer waits for servicing during peak riding months. Healthy recruitment figures are typically a reassuring sign that the infrastructure supporting everyday cycling – not just competitive racing – remains robust heading into autumn.
