Winspace Unveils G5: A New Aero Weapon for Gravel Racing

Chinese frame specialist Winspace has thrown its hat into the increasingly crowded aero-gravel ring with the launch of the G5, a race-bred machine designed to hold its own whether the tarmac runs out or not.

The G5 succeeds the well-received G3 platform and, according to the brand, refines that formula rather than reinventing it. Winspace says the new frame has been shaped to cut through the air on fast, exposed sections while still offering the stability and compliance riders need when the surface turns rough and unpredictable.

Details remain limited for now, but the firm is pitching the G5 as equally at home on multi-day bikepacking-style adventures as it is lining up on the start grid of a competitive gravel race. That dual billing reflects where the gravel category has been heading for some time: bikes that can cover big miles in comfort yet still deliver a genuine speed advantage when the pace ramps up.

Winspace has built a reputation in recent years for producing lightweight, aerodynamically conscious frames at a relatively accessible price point compared with some of the bigger-name manufacturers, and the G5 looks set to continue that positioning within the gravel segment.

For UK riders, the launch is another sign of just how seriously the industry now takes gravel racing as a discipline in its own right, rather than an offshoot of road or cyclocross. As events such as the Gralloch and various UCI Gravel World Series rounds continue to grow domestically, demand for bikes that genuinely straddle road-like speed and off-road durability is only increasing – and fresh competition at this end of the market should ultimately mean more choice, and sharper pricing, for racers here at home.
