Polish component specialist absoluteBLACK has pulled the wraps off its latest disc rotor range, dubbed RAVEN SL and RAVEN GT, the result of more than ten years of research into how perforation patterns affect braking feel and power.
The firm says the new designs are built around a single guiding principle: keeping pad contact with the steel braking surface as consistent as possible throughout the rotation of the wheel. Uneven steel coverage, it argues, is a major cause of the pulsing, wandering bite point and inconsistent modulation riders sometimes experience, particularly under heavy or prolonged braking.
Both models use a full-floating construction, meaning the steel braking ring is mechanically attached to an aluminium carrier rather than bonded or riveted rigidly, allowing it to move slightly and manage heat and warping more effectively. The SL is pitched as the lighter, race-oriented option, while the GT is aimed at riders wanting greater durability and heat management for longer or more demanding descents.
