Bikebook and Topeak Team Up to Salute Britain’s Bike Mechanics

An initiative celebrating the unsung heroes of the workshop has gained fresh backing, with tool manufacturer Topeak joining forces with online booking platform bikebook to expand its Mechanic of the Month scheme.

Launched earlier this year, the award recognises talented spanner-wielders working in bike shops up and down the UK, with members of the public invited to nominate mechanics who go above and beyond for their customers. The latest recipient is Ginger Rick Pro Bike Mechanic, whose work has been singled out for praise under the scheme.

Topeak’s involvement will see winning mechanics supplied with tools from the brand’s workshop range, while shops taking part in the scheme will also gain access to preferential trade pricing on Topeak kit for a full year, distributed through Extra UK. Organisers say the tie-up reflects a wider push to raise the profile of mechanics, whose contribution is often overlooked despite being central to keeping riders safe and moving.

For readers who race or ride seriously, the scheme is a timely reminder of just how much trust competitors place in the person servicing their bike before an event. A poorly adjusted gear or an undertorqued bolt can end a race weekend before it begins, so initiatives that reward diligence and skill in the workshop ultimately benefit everyone on the start line. With more brands now willing to invest in recognising mechanics rather than just riders, it is hoped the profession’s status – and pay – might also see a boost.

Nominations for future Mechanic of the Month awards remain open to the public via the bikebook platform.
