Bicycle Association teams up with Novuna to guide retailers through finance rules
The Bicycle Association is set to host a series of retailer briefings alongside consumer credit provider Novuna, aimed at helping bike shops navigate the latest Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) requirements around point-of-sale finance.
The sessions, timed to coincide with several major trade events over the coming months, will explain how retailers can continue to offer 0% and low-interest finance deals compliantly, while also outlining changes to consumer credit regulation that shops need to be aware of when selling bikes, e-bikes and accessories on credit.
Novuna has long been one of the sector’s key finance partners, underwriting many of the interest-free schemes used by independent bike shops to help spread the cost of higher-value machines. The Bicycle Association says the collaboration is designed to give retailers direct access to compliance guidance and practical advice, rather than leaving smaller shops to interpret regulatory updates alone.
Representatives from both organisations will be available at the events for one-to-one conversations with retailers, alongside wider sessions on how finance options can support sales during a period when household budgets remain tight and premium bike and e-bike prices continue to climb.
For everyday riders, this matters more than it might first appear. Point-of-sale finance has become one of the main routes by which cyclists afford decent-quality road, gravel and e-bikes, particularly as average retail prices have risen sharply in recent years. Ensuring shops remain properly compliant should protect buyers from mis-sold credit agreements while keeping affordable finance routes open on the shop floor.
With several bike shows and industry gatherings on the calendar this autumn, the Bicycle Association’s push suggests finance compliance will be a recurring talking point across the trade, not just a one-off briefing. Riders shopping for a new bike this winter may notice retailers being more transparent about credit terms as a result.
