US bike rack veteran Allen heads to UK via new Kuga Sports deal

American bike transport specialist Allen Bike Racks is set to become a more familiar sight on UK roads after appointing Kuga Sports as its sole distributor for the country. The agreement means British retailers will, for the first time, be able to stock the brand’s full line-up through an established domestic supply chain rather than relying on grey imports or direct shipping from the States.

Allen has been building racks for more than half a century, and its catalogue spans boot-mounted straps-and-arms models, towbar-fitted platform carriers, and more specialised units built to handle everything from lightweight road bikes to bulkier mountain and electric machines. The brand has long enjoyed a reputation in North America for robust, no-nonsense engineering, and Kuga Sports says it plans to build a proper retail network here rather than simply selling online, giving shops the chance to offer fitting advice and after-sales support alongside the hardware.

For UK riders, the arrival of another serious player in the transport market is a welcome development. Getting bikes safely to sportives, club runs, races and trailheads is a headache many cyclists underestimate, and a wider choice of well-made racks – particularly towbar options capable of carrying heavier e-bikes – should help ease pressure on a market that has often felt dominated by a handful of European brands. Anyone who has wrestled with an ill-fitting boot rack on the way to a dawn start will appreciate having more tested, durable alternatives on the shelf.

Pricing and specific model availability are expected to be confirmed as Kuga Sports rolls out stock to retailers in the coming months, with UK cyclists likely to get their first proper look at the range at trade and consumer events later in the year.
